Oh, we have a couple of really hideous houses in our town. They are the kind of places that have tons of lights, and no theme. Stuff is just plugged in and set all over the yard. It's hilarious. We have certain ones we visit every year.

You can light up the whole darn lot, as long as you have a theme. I saw one picture that had Winnie the Pooh in the manger and another that had a Homer Simpson Santa standing with snowmen and nutcrackers.

Wrong, people! I've seen houses that were totally lit up but they were beautiful because everything went together and just kind of flowed.

Brighter does not mean better. Cait, if you take any pictures of the ugly houses, mail them to me and I'll post them. We'll start our own little Ugly Christmas right here.

Oh yeah, and Winnie the Pooh was dressed like Santa.

I've tried before taking the photos, and they haven't worked, because I haven't used a tripod for the slower shutter speed. But, I'll try again. There are two in particular here in town. But in Austin, there's a whole 2 block street that is famous for its bizarre lighting. People come by the thousands for the 3 or 4 weeks before Christmas, just to walk down the street and ogle. We've been several times and it's great fun. There are such things as a lighted alligagor (toy), a volcano, lighted toilets, a lighted stove (these are all out in the yards). One house has common things lighted and hanging on the outside walls. Lika a colander with lights inside it, and turned so the base is hanging outward. It actually looks pretty cool. Then, they've strung lights in all sorts of things, like pill bottles. Very creative. The website below may give you some idea of why the unofficial motto for the city is "Keep Austin Weird".

I’m both intrigued and horrified. Intrigued by the creativity (a lighted toilet?) and horrified by the, um, well, creativity (a lighted toilet???).

Ok, I went to the link you provided, and I’m sold! This is awesome! You got to love people who are bold enough to decorate for Christmas using what must be Halloween decorations! And the lighted car? Well no one else could do that because nobody but a true redneck would have stationary cars in their front yard! I’m betting these houses look better at Christmas than any other time of year!

How fun would it be to live on this street (at Christmas time only)?
